"For what doth it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his own soul?" (Matt. 16:26, Douay-Rheims
)
The supreme goal of every individual, as the Incarnation suggests, is the salvation of souls, especially one’s own soul. The Catholic Faith truly teaches us of the Two Great Commandments, love of God above all things and love of neighbor as one’s self. How can parents ensure that their children learn these truths as they acquire the necessary knowledge and skills for life?
Homeschooling—specifically, Catholic homeschooling—is a means to teach these foundational truths to your children and to inoculate them against the wrong-headedness of a culture that opposes the learning and living-out of these truths.
Public schools today, as a matter of policy or law, often teach or expose students to material antithetical to Catholic belief and practice. Many schools are driven by politically correct agendas and anti-God sentiments, and Catholic students attending are ostracized if they speak of God or share their faith. Furthermore, students who are academically successful or different in some way than their peers are at risk of incessant bullying and belittling because of their accomplishments or nonconformity.
Catholic homeschooling, by contrast, provides an environment where a student's individual God-given talents and religious expression are encouraged and nurtured by parents who lovingly guide their faith and diligently practice it in daily life. Catholic
homeschooling not only provides students with a solid academic foundation that fine-tunes thinking skills enabling them to discern right from wrong, but also cultivates a tenderness of heart that yearns to know God and desires to love and serve Him. As parents and teachers guide the student through a fully Catholic curriculum, the child learns truth, develops self-motivation and self-discipline, and receives positive encouragement rather than negative peer pressure. Faith and family unity grow.
Queen of Heaven Academy provides parents this opportunity. Our scholarly online curriculum is oriented on God, helping students develop a world view based on the tenets of the Catholic faith while they pursue academic excellence. As technology has advanced our school, over the past 25 years, has incorporated audio, video, text, whiteboard, and course management functions that allow for live classes, 24/7 access to student assignments, and engagement with other Catholic students. Queen of Heaven Academy students in online classes learn in the same way as students in brick-and-mortar schools: the teacher presents the material and students ask and answer questions and interact with their classmates. Outside of classes, students do assigned homework, take tests and quizzes, complete written assignments, and submit work to teachers for grading, engaging with their teachers for support as they need it. Classroom sessions can be recorded, letting students review course material after classes are complete. Scheduling is flexible, so students can participate in extracurricular activities and parents can create course schedules that meet their aspirational goals for their children. Additionally, Queen of Heaven Academy’s SafetyNet option permits students to focus on their studies while keeping safe from the dark side of the Internet.
