“Mom, may I have an online class, too?” A simple course, Redwall was created to provide our young siblings the opportunity to be online like their older brothers and sisters. It also gave mom a bit of a breather! Like the book series on which it was based, Redwall was, and remains, a hit.
The same philosophy drives the continued formation of “new and improved” elementary courses gradually added over the years with the 2015-2016 boasting a total of 14 courses. Though elementary courses do not have live, interactive sessions and are parent taught, course activities with teachers and peers creates a vibrant learning community. Provided with each course are daily lesson plans, auto-scored weekly quizzes, individual student postings, and email communication with the teacher. Some courses have ancillaries (videos, audio recording, games) that enhance the basic materials chosen for each discipline.
The academic foundation of the program is the 3Rs: reading, writing and arithmetic. Material interspersed throughout the curriculum emphasizes the traditional teachings of the Catholic Church and is faithful to her Magisterium. Books include the Baltimore Catechism, Saints' lives, Bible stories and excerpts from writers such as G.K. Chesterton, Mother Mary Loyola, and C.S. Lewis, King Arthur’s Knights, St Thomas Becket, Shakespeare and more.
